MARTIN R. CANTOR APPOINTED CHIEF ECONOMIST FOR LIDC/GNYDC

Martin R. Cantor has been appointed Chief Economist for Long Island Development Corp. /Greater New York Development Co. (LIDC/GNYDC). As chief economist, he will be analyzing small business and economic trends to help guide the loan and technical assistance activity of (LIDC/GNYDC). In announcing Cantor's appointment, Long Island Development Corp. Chairman, Douglas Asofsky, said," this is a crucial time in the history of the greater New York Region. We have expanded from a local development entity to a tri-state lender, now serving NY, NJ and Connecticut. In this expanded role, we need to have up to date information and statistics as to where our loans are needed, what industries are growing, etc. It is a perfect time to bring Marty on board to help guide our growth."
Cantor, a CPA, was previously Commissioner of Economic Development for Suffolk County; Vice-Chairman of the Suffolk County Indsutrial Development Agency; Chief Economist for Sustainable LI (a smart growth, sustainable development advocacy group); Chief Economist for the New York State Assembly Subcommittee for the Long Island Economy and Senior Fellow at the White Plains based Institute for Socio-Economic Studies. Marty is also a frequent contributor to Newsday; is a columnist for Long Island Business News, the regions largest business weekly. He also offers business and economic commentary on regional and New York City based television and radio as well as in newspapers. Recently, Marty authored the groundbreaking book, Long Island, The Global Economy and Race: The Aging of America's First Suburb."
