Freeport
based business school- the New Life Business Institute Inc.- is
expanding with the help of low cost financing from the Long Island
Small Business Assistance Corp. (LISBAC). The two year old company
teaches medical billing and is expanding to add degrees in computer
aided drawing, paralegal and medical assistance. New Life is licensed
by the NYS Education Dept. and is awaiting imminent Title IV accreditation
which will enable it to give financial aid. Currently located
on Church St and Merrick Rd in Freeport, the school is owned by
Sheila Allen, a former Professor at Briarcliffe college and Chubb
Institute. The courses range from 12 weeks for medical billing
to 10 months for medical assistant. Sheila has obtained contracts
to train people from the Town of oyster Bay, NYS Office of Vocational
Services, EAC and others. The loan from LISBAC will enable her
to add the new courses and increase advertising. LISBAC provides
long term, low cost loans to women owned businesses along with
free counseling, seminars and technical assistance. Citibank provides
the funding for LISBAC. NYS provides moneys for LISBAC to run
seminars. And the accounting firm of Trachtenberg & Pauker
provides free technical assistance. LISBAC is operated by the
Long Island Development Corporation- LI's premier small business
lender- which has made over $650 million in loans to LI entrepreneurs
and, in addition, provides long term, low fixed rate, low downpayment
second mortgage loans to small businesses buying and constructing
buildings. For information about LISBAC click here.
