Immigration
to the US from India held promises of a better life for Harendra
(H) and Ruby Singh, but they will be the first to say that, in
their wildest dreams, never could they have imagined the success
they have attained here. Twenty plus years of hard work has yielded
one of Long Island's premier restaurant/catering businesses and
the ability to support numerous community activities.
Both
H and Ruby Singh have steeped themselves in the hospitality, food
service industry. Subsequent to obtaining his Masters in business
management, H worked for various food chains such as Arthur Treachers
and Burger King where he rose to be District Manager. Ruby obtained
extensive experience working at various five star India hotels.
In 1988 H ventured into his own restaurant business with an A&W
restaurant in Bethpage.

Today, that
location is the flagship of the company and operates as HR Singletons,
Classic American Grill. Singleton's is now a 600 seat restaurant,
banquet and catering facility which is busy seven days a week. In
1998, joined by Ruby, the Singh's ventured into another business,
The Woodlands. The Woodlands started as a modest catering facility
in the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course and today has a full service
upscale restaurant seating 250 and catering facilities that can
seat up to 500. In addition to the two restaurants/catering facilities,
the Singhs own and manage the shopping center which houses Singletons.
A
major part of the couple's ability to successfully operate and expand
their catering empire has been low cost financing to purchase and
renovate the buildings involved, thereby enabling them to contain
costs and manage cash flow. Financing for both the Singleton's and
Woodland's projects was provided by SBA 504- a long term, low fixed
rate second mortgage program. Another factor in the success of these
operations has been the Singh's willingness to involve their extended
family in operations, thus ensuring continuity of management, passion
and dedication.
This
dynamic couple, in addition to building the American Dream for themselves
and their family, has made a major impact in the communities in
which they live and operate businesses. They are known for their
generous contributions to local charities, support of youth oriented
activities such as Little League operations, and involvement in
economic development initiatives to improve their communities
As
H Singh recently said " our success has been fueled by commercial
real estate ownership and business
development. Our children are well educated and happy. Our extended
family is being well supported by these enterprises. We are able
to make a positive impact in our community. We are truly living
the American Dream."
The
Singh's real estate developments were financed with long term, low
fixed rate second mortgages from Long Island Development Corporation.
