Whether
in NYC or on Long Island,
Small Business Growth is Good for Region
|
There
are those (particularly NYC politicians) who argue that movement of
businesses from the five boroughs to Long Island is detrimental to
the City. Others, however, recognize the benefits to the region of
keeping businesses in New York State. With the advent of global business,
internet, international freight channels- and, in fact, the ability
of many companies to do business from anywhere in the world- it is
a real challenge to keep companies physically close when they need
to expand. So, it is with great excitement that we acknowledge the
"local" growth of one such company- MNM Silkscreen and Artwork
Co. Inc.
MNM
is a silkscreen printing, assembly and packaging business for point
of purchase display cases. When you walk into a department store,
local pharmacy, or supermarket, and you see those displays promoting
everything from cosmetics to food products, think of MNM. Chances
are they had a hand in that display.
Started
in 1984, MNM, this minority owned company, is owned by Consuelo
and Noel Denis and their extended family. The company does silkscreen
printing on a variety of surfaces, plastic, acrylic, wood, metal,
glass etc. for use in displays. The company started in a Brooklyn
loft and then moved to LI City (Queens). Recently, it needed to
expand again but various factors dictated against a move within
the five boroughs. Happily, the Company is staying in NYS with a
location in Roosevelt where they will also be able to operate affiliate
Excellent Printing and Packaging.
Time
was of the essence in the recent move, as the company's lease in
Queens was up. Citibank and Long Island Development Corporation
worked together to provide attractive financing approved and closed
within one month- providing a first mortgage from the bank and a
long term, low fixed rate second mortgage from LIDC. Thanks to these
lenders and the company's willingness to look at sites on Long Island,
a minority owned manufacturer expanding its employee base is staying
in our region and continuing to support our regional economy.
