Kosher Baker Expands From Retail To Commercial Wholesale

The long established (30 years +) 3,000 foot kosher retail bakery known as Zomick's in Cedarhurst was recently able to expand into commercial baking in a state of the art 29,000 square foot facility in Inwood. This expansion will enable the company to serve commercial accounts throughout the tri state area in addition to serving its still thriving retail stores in Cedarhurst and Oceanside. Twenty five new employees will help the company expand its product line of challah bread, pastry danishes, cookies , cakes and related goods for distribution in NYS, NJ, PA and beyond.
Up to now, efforts in the wholesale area have been limited due to space. During the holidays, business increases multifold and the company presently has to rent additional outside freezer space. The larger facility will enable the company to keep all operations in house as well as expand capacity so it can serve the Mid Atlantic states and take on big name food chains as customers.
Principals Morris and Gittel Kaff come from a four generation family of bakers and pride themselves on offering a line of fine kosher baked products.
The project involves acquisition of the 29,000 foot space, renovations and equipment and will be financed by a first conventional mortgage from GE Capital and a second mortgage from Long Island Development Corporation under the SBA 504 loan program at a low fixed 20 year rate. City One Real Estate put the deal together. Ken Kowalczyk, VP Lending LIDC put the financing package together and underwrote the second mortgage loan.
